I booked the Question Preparation Session before meeting a financial planner about my EPF account. Going in, I had a list of concerns but could not put them in any order. Nora helped me work through them and by the end the question sheet was arranged from the most pressing down to the ones that could wait. The consultation itself went much more smoothly than I had expected — we got through everything in one meeting, which I had not managed in two previous attempts on my own.

I had thirty years of employment papers in three separate folders with no consistent system. Brought them all to the Records Sorting Appointment and the coordinator indexed everything by employer and year. What impressed me was the gap list — I found out I was missing three years of contribution records from one of my earlier employers. I now know exactly what to request and where. The office itself is calm and unhurried; I did not feel like I was on a timer.

My husband and I joined the Five-Month Programme because we had letters going back and forth between three different institutions and could not keep track of what we had sent, what we had received, and what was still waiting for a reply. The reply calendar alone was worth it — we stopped missing follow-up deadlines. The bound chronology at the end is exactly what our legal consultant asked us to bring to our final meeting with her.

My mother is seventy-two and has papers from four different employers spread across two decades. She remembers some of them, not all. We did the Records Sorting Appointment together and Rajesh was very patient about letting my mother describe documents in Hokkien while I translated. Everything is now in proper order in one file with a clear index. My mother keeps saying the folder looks so tidy — that matters to her.

Before I booked, I was a bit worried that the service might cross into giving financial advice, which I knew I needed separately. But from the first call, Wei Ling was clear about what Emberkeep does and does not do, and that clarity continued into the appointment itself. The Question Preparation Session helped me work out what I actually needed to ask, and my financial planner said it was the most structured set of questions she had received from a new client in a while.

I was managing my late father's pension records while also dealing with his estate. The Five-Month Programme kept the correspondence side of things manageable during what was otherwise a difficult period. I did not have to remember whether I had sent a particular letter because there was a log showing exactly when and what. The handover pack is now with the solicitor handling the estate.

Case Studies

Three client situations in more detail, describing what the challenge was, what Emberkeep did, and what the outcome looked like.

Case Study 01 — Question Preparation Session

Preparing for a First Consultation About EPF Withdrawal Options

Challenge

A recently retired civil servant from Bukit Mertajam had never met with a financial planner before. She had accumulated questions about her EPF contributions over twenty-five years but could not organise them clearly enough to know what to prioritise in a paid consultation.

What Emberkeep Did

A ninety-minute Question Preparation Session produced a question sheet ordered by the client's stated priorities. The coordinator identified which documents typically accompany each question and built a checklist accordingly. The session also covered what kinds of questions fall outside the scope of a financial planner's role.

Outcome

The client attended her first financial planner appointment with seven specific questions in priority order, each accompanied by the relevant documents. The consultation addressed all seven questions in a single two-hour session. She returned to Emberkeep six weeks later to book a Records Sorting Appointment.

"I finally felt like I knew what I was going in to talk about. Before this I would have turned up and hoped for the best."
Case Study 02 — Records Sorting Appointment

Sorting Twenty-Seven Years of Employment Records Across Five Employers

Challenge

A retired engineer from Nibong Tebal had changed employers five times between 1994 and 2021. His records were in four separate cardboard boxes with no consistent labelling. He knew some years were missing but could not tell which ones without going through every sheet individually.

What Emberkeep Did

A half-day Records Sorting Appointment produced a file sorted by employer and year with a printed index and employer tabs. The coordinator identified gaps in four year-ranges and produced a written gap list noting where each type of missing record is ordinarily requested. All documents were scanned to the client's external drive in the same order as the physical file.

Outcome

The client used the gap list to request four sets of records from two former employers and the EPF. Within eight weeks, three of the four gaps had been filled with records that had not previously been in the file. His financial planner described the organised file as "ready to work with on the first look."

"The gap list was the most useful thing. I did not know what I did not have until someone actually counted."
Case Study 03 — Five-Month Coordination Programme

Managing Correspondence with Three Institutions Over a Contested Pension Period

Challenge

A retired couple from Tanjong Bunga were corresponding with KWAP, a former private employer, and an insurance company about a pension discrepancy that had persisted across two years. Letters were being sent and received sporadically, and the couple had lost track of what had been acknowledged and what had not.

What Emberkeep Did

The Five-Month Coordination Programme established a master register, logged all correspondence from the start of the programme, and built a reply calendar tracking each institution's response obligations. Fortnightly calls tracked new arrivals and updated the log. At five months, a bound chronology of all correspondence in neutral language was produced for the couple's legal consultant.

Outcome

The couple arrived at their final consultation with a dated, indexed record of every letter sent and received across five months. Their legal consultant used the chronology as the working document for the consultation and did not need to ask for any additional context. The case moved into resolution stage within six weeks of that meeting.

"We had spent two years feeling overwhelmed by this. Five months of systematic record-keeping changed the whole situation."
